Il nome generico deriva dalla parola greca asaphes, che significa indistinto.

Diffusione

È un genere di trilobiti , che è noto dalla Bassa (alta Arenig) e dal Medio Ordoviciano dell'Europa nord-occidentale (Svezia, Estonia, zona di San Pietroburgo).
